ARE YOU A NEW RX24 PATIENT?
Congratulations
on taking the next step to having healthier, happier feet and a more
pain free existence! You have chosen a biomechanical treatment of your
condition which not only will help you feel better now, but may prevent
additional symptoms from occurring as you get older.
- Break-In Instructions
Wear
your orthotics 1-2 hours the first day, and then for each subsequent
day, you may increase your wear time by an additional 1-2 hours until
you are comfortable wearing your orthotics full time. (Please see #5 below).
- Be patient with how many shoes they fit in
You
have received an ultra biomechanically-controlling orthotic device.
These orthotics may be larger or deeper than typical custom or
store-bought inserts because they are designed and crafted to serve you
better than any other ever has. Wearing them in a sneaker or
full-fitting casual shoe may be your only option at first. It is our
goal to maximally control your existing deleterious foot motion 100%.
It is our recommendation that you break-in your new orthotics in one
particular pair of shoes/sneakers until you are completely comfortable
and able to wear them full-time.

- Orthotics should be worn with socks or stockings
Failure to comply with this may cause blistering or pain within your foot.
- New orthoses occasionally squeak
If
you find this to be the case, sprinkle a little talcum powder between
the underside of the orthotic and the inside of the shoe to reduce the
friction that causes the squeak. Eventually, with use, the squeaking
will subside.
- In most cases, the break-in and “getting used to” accommodation period lasts about two weeks:
Occasionally,
some discomfort may occur. Should this occur, reduce the wearing time
by one half our each day until the discomfort disappears. Proceed by
gradually increasing your wear time more slowly than before. If
discomfort persists, consult with your health care practitioner.

- If you play sports:
Please
do not wear your orthotics for sports activities during your initial
break-in period. Once you can wear the devices comfortably on a
full-time basis, you may then introduce them to your sports activity by
“breaking them in” to that sport. For example, if you typically run 4
miles, only run 1-2 miles the first time out in your orthotics, and
then gradually increase your mileage.
- Inspect your feet:
After
removing your shoe and orthotics during the first one to two weeks of
wear time, inspect both feet for new red marks, blisters or sores. Any
pink or mild red areas should disappear within 10-15 minutes. If you
notice any persistent pressure areas or sores, discontinue use
immediately and consult your health care practitioner.
- Picking out shoes:
Please
be sure to take your orthotics with you to pick out each and every pair
of shoes you anticipate wearing them in. It is important that your feet
and the orthotics fit correctly in the new shoes for optimal comfort
and support.

- Worn shoes:
Your
orthotics should not be worn with any shoe which is deemed worn out.
Check for excessive wear on the heel (wedging on one side), increased
bendiness of the middle arch of the shoe or any holes within the shoe
lining.
- Choosing the correct shoe:
Please
follow these simple rules to find the best type of shoe to allow your
orthotic to work with maximum effectiveness and comfort. A) The shoe
should NOT bend in the arch. It should only bend at the ball of the
foot. Grasp the shoe at each end and bend. It should only bend at the
ball where your toes bend. B) Make sure they fit comfortably to your
foot and the orthotics. While your orthotics require a break-in period,
new shoes should not! Never assume that the shoes “will stretch.” If
they aren’t comfortable in the store, they won’t be at home.
- Orthotic fit to shoe:
The
width and depth of your orthotics may be deeper or wider than any
previous pair you may have had. Begin by placing the orthotic device in
the very back of the shoe and completely flat. Be sure
there is not a gap between the back edge of the device and the shoe,
and that the device is not tipped to one side or the other. With your
foot and orthotic, the shoe should not be too tight, nor should you
experience excessive heel slippage. If necessary, remove the insole
that came with the shoe to create a more comfortable fit.

- Warning!
If
you suffer from diabetes or circulatory problems, foot infections or
ulcerations on your feet, or are afflicted with severe foot
deformities, consult with your health care practitioner before using
this product.
- Care/Maintenance:
Your
orthotics require very little care. They will get dirty, just as your
socks do, and may discolor over time with normal wear and tear. You may
clean them with soap and water, then wipe dry. Do not use bleach or
other caustic agents as this may damage the materials. Do not run
through the washing machine or dryer, do not expose to extreme heat.
- RX24 Warranty:
The
RX24 orthotic has a 60 day warranty against manufacturer’s defect or
breakage that occurs under normal use. This does not include any
modifications you or your health care provider make to the device.
Warranty does not imply, nor include, any guarantees of successful
clinical outcome.
